Description:
The second of three collections of Keklan's epic "Songs of Nectaire" is the first of three collections by Nicola Woodward, a flutist active as a soloist in the UK. Named for the flute-playing elder Nectaire who appears in Anatole France's 1914 full-length novel "Rebellion of the Angels," and written for unaccompanied flute, this massive work was written in one sitting over four months in 1945. Woodward incorporates the echoes of the cathedral into this work, which seems to speak to the listener, and maintains a noble tension until the end.
