Description:
Grigory Krein was a Russian-Jewish composer. He studied in Moscow with Paul Juon and Laingolit Gurier, and from 1905 to 1908 with Max Reger in Leipzig; from 1913 he joined the Moscow branch of the Jewish Folk Music Society, where he was recognized as one of the leading composers of the time. This album contains works from his early period, in which the influence of Grieg and his teacher, Reger, can be felt, as well as works from his middle and mature period, in which he used complex harmony reminiscent of Scriabin. Except for the sonatas, this is the world premiere recording of Crane's unknown compositions, performed by the British virtuoso Jonathan Powell. Naxos Japan
