German-Scottish mezzo-soprano Catriona Morrison, winner of the 2017 BBC Cardiff International Vocal Competition, has already established herself in concert halls and opera houses around the world, and here is her first solo album. The album is centered around Josephine Lang, a German Romantic composer whose lyrical songs are an important part of her repertoire, and includes works by Schumann, Brahms, and Grieg, with whom she studied in Leipzig as a young woman. Morrison's beautifully clear voice, which seems to seep into the listener's heart, and her rich yet clean expression more than bring out the charm of these songs.
