Antonini, who has been recording the complete symphonies of Haydn's late great works, is now ready to perform them! Il Giardino Armonico is a group of talented musicians who have made a name for themselves in Italy, a country that was a little behind the times in adapting to the performance of ancient music instruments. The group's musical director, Giovanni Antonini, has recently been making a greater commitment to classical music, and is currently recording the complete Haydn symphonies (HAYDN 2032) for the Alpha label, a series that is only possible with his experience in performing Baroque music. In the midst of this series, a recording of Haydn's late masterpiece "The Creation" will suddenly appear as an extra volume of the same series. Antonini is a master of Haydn's original astonishing wit and unconventional use of sound, and this release is not to be missed. The Creation is Haydn's masterpiece oratorio, which he performed in Vienna in 1798 after returning from a trip to London where he had composed more than 100 symphonies.The orchestra's orchestral technique, which Antonini has cultivated in the symphonies, is also on full display, making for an impressive listening experience. Antonini is aware of every detail of the work and does not simply aim for impact with sharp angular sound production, but rather slowly reveals the beauty of the work with well-thought-out tempo settings and agogigues. The bass continuo is played on a harpsichord instead of a fortepiano. The three soloists, who are well-known for their performance of religious works, are also very well behaved, and the overall interpretation is a performance that is more and more delicious the more you listen to it.
