This is a collection of choral works by Whitbourn, a 1963 British composer and Grammy-nominated composer. Highly acclaimed by the Observer as "the leading composer of contemporary British choral music," Whitbourn is known for the direct communication his style creates between performer and audience, and has released seven albums of choral works. The Seven Heavens, the title of this album, is a unique suite of seven movements, featuring chorus and seven solo instruments. The other pieces also use a variety of styles, such as a cappella chorus, chamber ensemble, and with viola and organ, to bring out the best of the chorus. The performance, Chor Cantiamo, is a professional choir that serves as the choir in residence at Northern Illinois University in the United States.
