The third release in the ATHENE label's "The Great Violins" series of recordings on historical instruments is a collection of works from the "Klagenfurt Manuscript" of Austria, played by Stradivari, dating from 1685. Scheerwez came across the manuscript, which consists of 80 pages with fine leather covers, and intensively studied the score before recording it. The composer's name is unknown, but it was probably the work of a Benedictine nun. This time, 96 pieces are recorded on two CDs. The English player Scaves is a virtuoso who has been dedicated by many composers and is known for his excellent knowledge and interpretation of musicological and historical works, and is the only one who has played the instruments favored by Viotti, Paganini, Joachim, Kreisler, and Ole Bull. The instrument used in this project is a Stradivari made in 1685, the same year as the manuscript score. This violin is smaller than modern instruments and is sometimes called a violino piccolo.
