Lilit Grigorian is a pianist from Yerevan, Armenia, who began playing the piano at the age of 7. A graduate of the Rostock University of Music and Drama, she has been active as an artist-in-residence at the Queen Elisabeth University of Music in Belgium. She has performed in concert halls around the world and actively participates in chamber music; her 2018 release NAXOS: Works for Viola and Piano (8.573730) features her excellent performances of classical music with the young Japanese viola player Hiyori Togawa. This solo album focuses on "variations," with six pieces ranging from Bach-Busoni's Chaconne to Schimanowski. Grigorian plays each melody with great care, and the inventiveness of the composers is depicted. Mendelssohn's "Strict Variations" includes "Four Variations," which the composer himself deleted. Mendelssohn was known for his frequent revisions of his own works. Naxos Japan
