Description:
Born in 1718, the son of a court clerk, Kammerlohr was musically gifted from an early age, and when he was ordained a clergyman by Freising Cathedral in 1744, he was also recognized as an outstanding musician and composer, He was also regarded as an excellent musician and composer. Later, after his appointment as court music director, he is known for his contribution to the development of the city's musical culture by writing numerous works over a period of almost 40 years. Today, he is so beloved by the local people that the music school in Freising is named after him in commemoration of his achievements. The centerpiece of this album, produced to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Kammerlohr's birth, is Christoph Ecklehuber, a lute player who attended the Kammerlohr School of Music in Freising. He edited and recorded Kammerlohr's works, which are not well known outside of his hometown, together with his colleagues. Most of the pieces are world premiere recordings, and the instruments used are well researched. The gallicorn used here is the successor to the lute, also known as a "mandola".It is said that the lute guitar was born from this instrument in Germany.
