Description:
Rameau was active during the French Baroque period. Although he is known as a composer of numerous dramatic pieces, he did not achieve fame until after the age of 40. As a young man, he was exclusively a church organist in various churches, and most of his keyboard works were written in the early years of his career. All of his works are richly expressive, reminiscent of his later outstanding ballets and operas, and he is known to have had a strong influence on later composers, including Debussy. British harpsichordist Devine performs a three-volume collection of clavesan pieces, "The Dauphine," and a version of the ballet music from "Elegant India" that Rameau himself arranged for clavesan.
