It has been 15 years since Jansons took over as chef of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, a long term administration comparable to the Kubelik era. It is significant for Jansons, who has steadily recorded a number of Bruckner symphonies, that his first disc of the Eighth was with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Jansons' style of developing a careful acoustic design in the flow of the music gives a sense of spaciousness, while at the same time carefully carving out the details in an uncluttered manner. The brushstrokes leading up to the apex in the adagio movement are truly beautiful.
