Kate has long had a strange relationship with inanimate objects (she cites her bicycle as her best friend), as if the pleasure they evoke in her is a character trait of the objects themselves. In this work, she exhibits a kind of reverse anthropomorphism. She has reduced her voice, become an object in the crowd, toy-like in size and perspective, living with a sedentary and indifferent roommate. This pursuit of a childlike perspective is a thread that runs through much of her catalog, placing her own work on the same plane in both subject matter and tone as that of her personal hero, Nobukazu Takemura, who has treated his music as a portal to childlike curiosity for decades. With this invitation to the pursuit of curiosity, "WOW" further confirms Kate NV's deeply creative, fluid, and technically dizzying artistry. By rejecting constraints and rules, kate embodies a profound freedom, allowing objects, sounds, and processes to unfold organically. Through her lens, the small becomes enormous, the abstract becomes sensual, and the old becomes new.This work offers a prismatic shift in the listener's perspective and scale, a parallel dimension where the mundane becomes funny, unfamiliar, and completely sensational. flipping the approach of her 2020 album Room for the Moon on its head, a floor full of curiosity and wonder spills over, Kate puts sounds, objects, and rituals under the microscope, magnifying the joys hidden in the mundane scenes of everyday life. A portion of the proceeds from this release will be donated to War Child, an organization dedicated to helping children and families affected by conflict and building sustainable peace for future generations.
