Description:
Lead single "Crescent" lights up the night sky as the entrance to the glorious "Gravity". Waves of guitar harmonize with the abstract vocals of April George, vocalist for the Washington-based male-female duo April + VISTA. On the next song, "Regrowth," Willits changes perspective and creates a soundscape of "mending a shattered heart." These two rotating scenes initiate a panoramic scan that outlines our human consciousness, from sky to earth, macro to micro. All of this is highlighted by a series of photographs Willits took from the settled dust of White Sands. Willits carefully crafts this space, adding and subtracting ambisonic layers and elements to give direction to the listener, such as the rain sounds in "Endless" and the arpeggiated sunlight in "Spiraling." There is a wave-like rhythm and flow to this work, a stability provided by gravity or lack thereof, which is both an expression and a resource. (2/2)
