NEKOMATA is a metalcore band from Milan, Italy, named after the cat monsters that appear in Japanese folklore, classic ghost stories, and essays. Andrea Cappellari, former guitarist of Italian power metal band SKELETOON, and Filippo Zavattari, former bassist of another Italian power metal band FROZEN CROWN, formed the band's predecessor, "Hikaruma". The band changed its name to "NEKOMATA" in 2009, with vocalist Andrea Olivieri and drummer Alberto Mezzanotte, who left FROZEN CROWN at the same time as Filippo, as drummers. They are now releasing their first album "...And Then, The Abusement Park Left Town". This album, which was produced under the genre of "power metal core," or metal core with elements of power metal, is an album in which Andrea Cappellari's destructive and melodic riff work using multi-stringed guitars and Andrea Olivieri's signature wailing growls and tragic clean voice are intertwined with each other, creating a unique and somewhat original sound. The intertwining of Andrea Olivieri's signature wailing growls of lamentation and tragic clean voice gives the album an original and somewhat Japanese sound.The new style of metalcore + power metal is a must-listen for extreme metal fans.
