As the title suggests, the album reflects the atmosphere of Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles, where many musicians were gathering at the time and a new musical culture was developing. Her sound, rooted in country rock and swamp rock, similar to that of The Band and early Elton John, was a refreshing change from her previous image. The title track is a love and paean to the land of Laurel Canyon. With its uplifting piano riff and impressive gospel-style chorus, it beautifully expresses the yearning for the West Coast and the creative energy of the people who gathered there. The song sings of the atmosphere of Laurel Canyon, the ideal land of the hippie movement and artists of the time, and the life and spirit of the people living there, with an affectionate eye, and is a symbolic song that points to the direction of the entire album.
