Darrell Banks' debut album, Darrell Banks Is Here!, released in 1967 by Atlantic's Atco label, continues to be highly regarded as an album that perfectly combines the sophistication of Detroit soul with his gospel-derived powerful singing voice.The production team was also stellar: Sonny Saunders's lush strings, tight rhythms backed by Detroit's top musicians, and atop it all, a rich, sweet baritone voice that never falters. This creates a cohesive sound throughout the entire album. The representative song is "Open the Door to Your Heart," which reached No. 2 on the US R&B charts. It symbolizes the excitement of the time, including the background of overcoming copyright issues to become a hit. "Our Love (Is in the Pocket)," which George Clinton was involved in, also has a strong driving force, with a groove that shines on the dance floor. Furthermore, "Somebody (Somewhere) Needs You," credited to Frank Wilson, is considered the ideal form of Northern Soul, and the ballad "Here Come the Tears" showcases his depth of expression and sincerity. The album's composition leaves no room for filler tracks, making it both an ideal introduction and a classic.
