Chum Ngek & Sara Say with Masady Mani "AGANGAMASOR & HIS MAGIC POWER The first part of the Cambodian version of the Ramayana, "The Tale of Liam Khay," was adapted for the stage in 2009 as the classical dance play "Agangamasor and His Magical Power. The production was led by Khmer classical dance veterans Sala Sai and Masadi Mani, who belong to the Cultural Group of the Buddhist Association of Cambodia in the United States, and Khmer music maestro Chum Ghek, who served as musical director. The beautiful songs that colorfully illustrate the story and the classical musical composition of the Khmer traditional instruments: the Srai reed instrument, the Khmer gong instrument, the Korn Thom, the Kim similar to the Chinese Yangqin, the barrel-shaped double-sided drum, the Troh two-stringed rubbing instrument, and the xylophone Loni Atua Ek, create a great lyrical poem that blends myth, Buddhist elements, and heroic tales in a single, colorful performance.
