June Taber, one of the most popular female singers in UK folk music, has released a new album! June Taber's last album, "Apples" (Rice TPR-5056), was released in 2007, so it has been almost four years since her last album. June Taber was born in 1947 in Warwick, a town in central England. She has loved music since she was a child, and in her mid-teens, she discovered the folk revival that was taking place in England, and became fully immersed in the scene. While still in college, she played in an amateur band and attracted a great deal of attention when she formed a folk duo with Maddie Pryor, the Siri Sisters. Their two albums, including their debut album (1976), are still considered masterpieces and are well-loved in Japan. In the same year as the debut of the Three Sisters, June also made her solo debut on Topic Records, a prestigious UK folk label, as well as this album. Since then, she has continued to release albums consistently, and in the mid-1990s, June's music was released in Japan by Columbia and other labels. As you can imagine from the titles of her previous albums, she has focused on a theme (i.e., "apples" in the previous album) and collected songs related to it, but this time she has chosen "the sea" as her theme. She was born in a region far from the sea, and she has had a strong longing for the sea since she was a small child. She chose this song and sang it with that in mind. The cool arrangement (accordion, strings [violin, viola, double bass], and piano) that evokes the cold sea as depicted on the jacket will surely win the hearts of all lovers of simple music, not just folk. Lovely.
