Formed by Kunio Suma in 1974, Bijyun was active as a live band mainly in Shizuoka, but in the 1980s signed a contract with NEXUS, a King Records subsidiary that emerged from the progressive rock revival. Parallax", released the following year, was regarded as a masterpiece of progressive rock in Japan for its technique and highly accomplished sound reminiscent of King Crimson, and became one of the most important bands of the "second generation" of progressive rock in Japan, along with New Moon, KENSO, and others. After that, the band went on several hiatuses, but continued to record as Bijidan, producing albums with a wide range of musical styles that broke away from the progressive rock category. Kunio Suma continues to be active in a variety of fields, producing solo albums and working on soundtracks for animated TV shows. In 2025, he completed a new album "Bloodliners," the first new album by Bijyun, after a long interval of absence. The production of this album started at the same time as the leader Kunio Suma's third solo album "Blocked Paradise" (2024). The album will be completed in June of this year with violin by his son Kazuo Suma, who has participated in the band since their 5th album "Anthology vol.1" (2002), and recording at "Mountain North Studio," a studio located in a perfect location with Mt.The band also approaches a modern, alternative sound without going through a kind of stale "progressive rock" mannerism, and creates an album with a sharp, thrilling sound reminiscent of King Crimson during the "Sun and Fear" period, which makes beautiful madness beautiful madness, and maintains an astonishing musical performance. The album is created with a sharp and thrilling sound and astonishing musical performance. Short Film" and "Rock Me" have a hard and heavy beauty frenzy sound that captivates the listener with its impact in the first 10 seconds. Sand Palace" and "Check 1.2.3.", which express the musicality of Led Zeppelin/Jimmy Page, whom Kunio Suma respects, as a beautiful frenzy, also color this album. The "Crustal Shift," an answer song to "21st Century Skizoid Man" as a beautiful frenzy with lyrics that question one's own existence on a performance reminiscent of early King Crimson, is the highlight of the album! Recorded in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the band's birthplace and base of operations, and featuring the aforementioned Kazue Suma (violin) and Harumi Saegusa (vocals), the album is aptly titled "Bloodliners.
