This is a welcome release in the current situation where the Opus recordings, which are said to have the best sound quality, are hard to find. The young Cervélo Cavalli is not one step behind the great master Casals, and he takes a rather combative approach to the performance. In the fall of 1937, the Czech Philharmonic made a tour of Belgium and England. In the fall of 1937, the Czech Philharmonic made a tour of Belgium and England, conducted not by Thalich but by the young Kubelík, and the recording session in London was conducted by Sell, which resulted in this "New World" recording. This is a terrific performance full of tension that sustained a rigorous and considerable sense of speed. Two years later, Czechoslovakia collapsed due to Hitler. This is a masterful performance in such a thrilling historical context. As with the popular "Weingartner's Complete Beethoven Works", the SP of excellent quality was cleaned and reproduced. No noise reduction or filtering was used.Equalization was kept to a minimum and scratch noise was removed one by one to bring it back to this level of sound quality.
