Description:
Francescatti's beautiful tone impresses us! Beethoven (stereo), performed under Mazur in 1975, the year before he retired from performing, is released for the first time! Kreisler, J.S.Bach and Saint-Saens (all in mono) are the first authorized recordings on CD! Source provided by INA Gino Francescatti's astonishing first recordings, two titles released at the same time! Spectrum Sound's "Bel-Arm" series, based on the sound sources provided by the National Audiovisual Institute (INA) and Radio France, has been gaining a reputation for its careful CD reissue. This is the first CD release of the official first recording of Gino Francescatti (1902-1991), one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century! Compared to his contemporaries Oistrakh and Heifetz, Francescatti had a long career but few recordings. For this reason, we are very happy to have the first release of this recording. Francescatti, a "live performer" who charmed many audiences with his uniquely beautiful tone. Now available on CD for the first time from a rare source stored at INA is a live, stereo recording of Beethoven's concerto with the Orchestre National de France, conducted by Kurt Masur, at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées on April 9, 1975. Beethoven performed it in front of an audience at the age of 10, a true eighteenth-century performance. The Beethoven is the most widely recorded live recording of Francescatti, and this performance is astonishing for the virtuosity and matured tone that one would not expect from a 72-year-old! Francescatti retired from full-fledged performance in 1976, but the Beethoven performance heard here is a masterful performance of Francescatti at the height of his powers, with a full tone and free and unrestrained singing. Kreisler's unaccompanied recitative and scherzo caprice were performed live at the Mediterranean Palace in Nice on November 28, 1968. Not many unaccompanied works performed by Francescatti remain, so this is a very welcome CD release. J.S. Bach's Partita No. 1 for Solo Violin and Saint-Saens' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso were performed live in Besançon on September 9, 1958.This one is in his mid-50s, and his sharpness and enunciation stand out, but Francescatti's greatest charm, his incomparably beautiful portamento and sweet-tasting tone, are on full display, making just listening to him enchanting. Please enjoy the precious live recordings of Francescatti together with the previously unreleased live recordings in France Vol. 2 (CDSMBA-169) released at the same time. SPECTRUM SOUND
