Familiar to piano students, these pieces are not only pedagogical pieces written as a guide to performance and compositional techniques, but also works of art of the first rank, full of high artistry and rich imagination. Medjieva, who has earned a reputation as a Bach player through her recordings of the "Golteberg Variations" and the "Mean Square Clavier Works," gives a performance here that is both sincere and full of emotion. Here, too, Medjieva gives an earnest and moving performance that once again highlights the appeal of Bach's works. (Instrument used: 1922 New York Steinway.)
