Description:
Miko Chan's Roots Hit Parade", a collection of original cover pop songs sung by Miko Chan, will be remastered and reissued in 2023 as a memorial edition for Mieko Hirota, who passed away at the age of 73 on July 21, 2020. This remarkable compilation album features original versions of various Western songs she covered, from her memorable debut song "Kodomo jajanai no nai" released in November 1961 to "Yumemiru chanson ningyo (Dreaming chanson doll)" released in August 1965. The album features a wide range of 60s girl pop from the UK, US and Europe, including Helen Shapiro, Maureen Gray, Connie Francis, Susan Singer, Meena, Tracy Day, Leslie Gore, Johnny Sommers, Peggy March, Gigliola Cinquetti and France Gal, as well as the "Cover Pop Boom" in Japan. This 2-CD set contains 47 tracks, including the original songs from Miko's "gorgeous hit parade," which symbolized the "cover pop boom" in Japan.She was only 14 years old when she made her debut with Helen Shapiro's cover of "Kodomo jajinai no nai", but even then she was a "prodigy" who was conscious of "how to sing pop in Japanese" and devised her own accents and syncopations. By comparing the original Western version and Miko's version on this disc, we hope that you will realize the greatness of Mieko Hirota once again.
