A timeless icon of modern culture, Ella Fitzgerald—her long-buried 1966 masterpiece is finally set for release! Import edition with Japanese-style obi strip “Live at Falconer Theater, Copenhagen, February 6, 1966,” a previously unreleased live recording by singer-songwriter, composer, and humanitarian Ella Fitzgerald, is set for worldwide release in July. Recorded on February 6, 1967, at the Falconer Theater in Copenhagen, Denmark, this monaural recording was originally made for Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) and had been preserved in the personal archive of a Danish producer. Although it had been forgotten for decades and was destined for disposal, the release of this rare archival recording will provide fans with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore an authentic moment in Ella’s career and immerse themselves in that world. The Duke Ellington Orchestra performs on this recording. Jimmy Jones handled the piano, in addition to his roles as arranger and musical director. Joining him were Joe Comfort on bass and Gus Johnson on drums. Boe Roger Henriksen, the producer of this album who attended the live performance, remarked about Ella on that day: “Compared to her trio concerts in Copenhagen over the past few years, she seemed more lively, and the mechanical impression had faded.”
