Description:
A bold attempt to question the true value of the "Romantic guitarist" Daisuke Suzuki finally picked up a multi-string guitar, which must have seemed like an "incident" to many guitar enthusiasts. The idea of eight-string guitars with extended bass reminds us of the Spanish master José Tomás and his student Rafaela Smits, but how many listeners could have predicted that Suzuki would even make an album using the same kind of instrument? Suzuki is a brilliant guitarist who has been able to produce first-rate performances of works from all periods and styles, and has been able to make arrangements of music that might not be considered suitable for guitar play in an appealing manner through his skillful chord work and inventive playing techniques. Since Suzuki himself has already explained the specific reasons in detail, I would like to add one more consideration by connecting it to another context of music history. Now that we have an unimaginably large number of original guitar works by outstanding composers, the position of the guitar as an instrument appears to be far more stable than it was 200 years ago, when it was called the "golden age.The fact that guitar works are still being produced by composers around the world today reinforces this feeling. However, the road that seems to be leading smoothly may be the road that leads to the "octopus pot" that Romantic guitarists once faced. In that closed space where only guitar lovers listen to guitar music and guitarists play only for guitar lovers. No matter how many great composers have left behind fruitful works, as long as there is not an open environment where they can be enjoyed by a wide range of people, there is no difference in the direction that is being taken. This concern is analogous to the problems faced by the classical music world as a whole. It is needless to say that Daisuke Suzuki is one of the musicians who has always been aware of such difficulties. He has been sincerely dealing with people who want music, without being bound by the ties of the guitar world or the framework of the classical music world. We hope that you will play the CD once again from this perspective and ponder why Suzuki picked up this 8-string guitar. The "ideas" of the Romantic guitarists may not be the unattainable "past," but rather "ghosts" that are reappearing in the 21st century, when we feel as if we have had enough. As one of the flexible responses to this, this album contains not only the pleasure of listening to music, but also the possibility of opening up to a non-linear future.
