Description:
Ernst Toch was born in Vienna. Although he studied philosophy and medicine at university and did not receive formal musical training, he began his career as a composer after winning the Mozart Prize for his "Chamber Symphony," which he wrote on his own. Initially writing in the Brahmsian style, he eventually tried his hand at avant-garde writing, but before the 1950s, he returned to tonal music in the late Romantic style. The works on this album were composed after the end of World War I, when he was searching for his own musical style, adopting atonal and other styles, and emphasizing "a romantic impression while drastically reducing the number of notes. Kokitz, who says he is fascinated by Toch's works, is a pianist who has visited Japan. Naxos Japan
