The "main program" of the 2016 Japan tour by Jansons and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks was the previously released "Alpine Symphony" by Richard Strauss and Mahler's lifetime masterpiece "Symphony No. 9". The excellence of the performances was highly acclaimed by Japanese audiences, and this recording is a live recording of the concert held in Munich prior to the visit to Japan. Under the tempo setting that everyone can relate to, Jansons' performance thoroughly pursues the sound that Mahler seeks, and at the end of the last movement, the music unravels into eternal light, and when the last note disappears, all is enveloped in solemn silence.
