Description:
Cartas Celestes" means "celestial chart" in Japanese. As the word implies, the four pieces recorded here are a collection of short pieces, each about one minute long, and are a "constellation of sounds" filled with diverse elements such as mythology, the sky, darkness, color, and an approach to the universe. De Almeida Prado (1943-2010) was a Brazilian composer who, along with Camargo Guarnieri, studied with Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen, eventually forming Brazil's "National Music School. Influenced by Messiaen, he created a new harmonic scheme, "transtonality," which he used to write 18 "Cartas Celestes. Of these, 15 were written for the piano, and perhaps his conception of light, the twinkling of stars, the Milky Way, and the Andromeda Nebula in sound was best suited to the sound of the piano. The young Brazilian pianist, Alayson Scopel, will portray a dazzling play of sound. His performance is innovative as only a young Brazilian pianist with a strong interest in contemporary works can be. Naxos Japan
