Description:
Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989) was the greatest conductor of the 20th century. Born in Salzburg, he began his conducting career at a young age and gained international fame when he conducted at the Aachen Opera in 1934 and the Berlin State Opera in 1938. However, after World War II, he was suspended from public performances because of his involvement with the Nazis during the war, but the suspension was lifted in 1947, and the following year he was appointed Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and in 1949 Music Director of the Musikverein in Vienna. The following year, he became the Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. With Furtwängler's death in 1954, he was appointed to the position of Chief Conductor for Life and Artistic General Director of the Berlin Philharmonic the following year. In both name and reality, he began his career as the "emperor of the music world.This 2-CD set includes a recording of the 1962 London tour, which opens with the British and Austrian national anthems, creating an extremely friendly atmosphere. The two recordings of the main program also feature a refined and flowing Mozart, and a gorgeous Bruckner, which is "the Karajan of Karajan. Two years later, Karajan and the Vienna Philharmonic ended their honeymoon, but there is not the slightest hint of such an atmosphere here. Naxos Japan
