Description:
A new production of "The Daughter of the West" by Christoph Roy was presented at the Frankfurt Opera in 2013, written by Puccini (1858-1924) for the Metropolitan Opera, who came to New York in 1907 at the invitation of the Met. He completed the work in 1909, despite some private squabbles along the way. It was premiered the following year and was well known for its high popularity at the time. However, perhaps because of its unique atmosphere among Puccini's works, it did not retain its popularity until later generations, and even today it is not often performed. This production, however, was highly praised for its careful reading of the blot and the use of simple but convincing devices and costumes, which allowed the audience to fully appreciate the hidden splendor of the work. Eefa-Maria Westbroek, a Dutch soprano, sings the leading role.She looks and sings wonderfully and succeeds in shedding new light on this work. Weigle, as usual, spins a massive, almost Wagnerian sound from the orchestra. Naxos Japan
