This is the 13th installment of the popular Hafabra Music "Master Piece" series, a collection of challenging works published by the Belgian sheet music publisher Hafabra Music. The title tune, "Mutations," is a work by Barthe Pickere, a Belgian composer known in Japan for "Gallic War" and "Dance of Hell. It is a 12-minute piece, but it is so dynamic and dramatic that it captivates all who hear it and makes them feel as if it is not long enough. Amir Morkpore's "Palmyra Ruins" is based on the ruins of a city in Syria during the time of the Roman Empire (around the 1st century A.D.). It is a majestic work that recalls the period of that time. Also included is the overture from the ninth opera "The Emperor's Bride" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, arranged by José Cins, who is highly regarded for his high quality transcriptions and arrangements. The world-class performance by the Belgian Guides highlights the excellence of each work, making this a collection of works that is full of charm.
