Mozart (1756-1791)
Description:
Complete first release! Barbirolli's Mozart Bliss! Excellent recording by Swiss Radio! Barbi's own edited "Suite for Strings" = Barbi's version of Mozart's "Eroica" oboe concerto with Mrs. Eroica and "Linz" symphony, Barbirolli's previously unreleased recordings. The fact that they are all Mozart works, which were surprisingly rarely recorded, is also of great interest. The highlight is the "Suite for Strings," a four-movement work in which Barbirolli compiled Mozart's works. The first movement is a prelude from Zingspiel "Bastian and Bastienne", the second movement is the second movement Andante from Symphony No.6 K.43, the third movement is the second movement Menuetto from Divertimento No.11 K.251, and the fourth movement is the second movement Allegro molto from Cassation K.99 (63a), transposed to the first movement. The 4th movement is transposed from the 2nd movement Allegro molto of Cassation K.99(63a) to match the 1st movement. The second movement is also changed to the adagio tempo, and it is indeed Barbirolli's arrangement based on the concept of Mozart's version of "Eroica" ("Bastian" theme is the same as the theme of Beethoven's "Hero"). The music is so natural and enjoyable that it seems like this kind of music was originally composed. The soloist in the oboe concerto is Mrs. Barbirolli (Evelyn Barbirolli-Roswell), who died in 2008. The couple made a studio recording with the Halle Orchestra in 1959, three years before this one. Symphony No. 36 "Linz" is also known as a live performance with the Halle Orchestra. The finale is a slow and heart-warming music, including the recollection scene. The tempo is slow as a whole, letting the audience sing to their hearts' content, and the Bellomunster Radio Orchestra responds with a magnificent sound that makes one feel no small number of players. The Beromünster Radio Orchestra responds with a fine sound that belies the small number of players. It seems to be a one-shot recording, and the on-mic live performance is very passionate and vivid. Includes liner notes in English, Japanese, and German.
