Description:

Best Selling Mahler No. 9, Klemperer's last Mahler! Re-released in MQA-CD high sound quality! In February 1967, in his final years, Klemperer renounced his long-held Catholic faith and returned to Judaism. At the same time, he made a studio recording of Mahler's masterpiece and swan song, Symphony No. 9, with the New Philharmonia Orchestra. From then on, Klemperer became obsessed with this "Ninth" to an unusual degree and performed it repeatedly in various cities. In 1966, he visited Jerusalem to visit his sister Marianne, who was seriously ill there, and in 1967, 1970, and 1971, he conducted the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra there and gave moving performances. Because of a conflict with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, he played with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Miraculously, those recordings have been preserved in excellent stereo recordings. It is a lucky thing. This is the last performance of Klemperer's "Mara 9". During this visit, Klemperer's application for Israeli citizenship was accepted within 12 hours, and his joyful appearance can be seen in the newspapers of the time. The orchestra is full of power, but it was widely known on pirate recordings as a dedicated masterpiece, and hissing noise was noticeable. This disc is a reissue from an authorized source, so the sound quality is superb, and the heavy and profound state of Klemperer's last years can be clearly heard. The middle section of the first movement is almost as radical as contemporary music. The second violin is very active, or rather, emphasized. The second and third movements in the middle are astonishing in their giant elephant steps and rhythmic rigor that seems to drive a steel pole into the brain's marrow. And then, the ultimate fourth movement, the Adagio. It is not a farewell to the world, but a huge masterpiece like a separation from and assimilation into the universe! Norman Lebrecht, in an interview, explains about this monumental performance. This is a must-read for fans. The Israel Radio Symphony Orchestra of the time and the Gadna Symphony Orchestra (youth orchestra, all teenage players before military service!) The performance is a joint performance by the Israel Radio Symphony Orchestra of the time and the Gadna Symphony Orchestra (a youth orchestra, all teenage players before military service!
