Description:
This is the first SACD release in high-resolution format using ORT mastering. This is the first SACD release in high-resolution format using ORT mastering, bringing back to life a masterpiece recording and performance at the very latest! The collaboration of Annerose Schmidt, who boasted of her unparalleled technique and wonderful musicality, and the famous conductor Kegel, a leading figure in the former East Germany, whose popularity has been increasing since his death. This is a masterpiece that deserves to be heard again. This is the first SACD release in high-resolution format using ORT mastering technology originally developed by Nippon Columbia. The CD layer also uses this mastered sound source. This recording has been regarded as one of her best-known performances, along with the complete Mozart piano concertos with Mazur. In September 1979, just before she turned 43, she was already highly acclaimed in the former East Germany for her Mozart, Schumann, Brahms, and other works, and her first visit to Japan in 1973 was also a time when her earnest piano playing was gaining even more fans. Kegel had also assumed the position of music director of the Dresden Philharmonic the previous year, and this performance is a reminder of the strong feelings both have for Brahms. The recording was made in collaboration with the then Deutsche Schallplatten, with a producer and engineer selected from both companies; at the time of 1979, Deutsche Schallplatten was not making digital recordings, and Nippon Columbia was the first in Europe to make a digital recording with Sanderling in June 1978. (After this recording, the remaining symphonies Nos. 5 and 6 were recorded with Sanderling in Berlin from September 19 to 26.) The sound quality differs from that of the analog recording; the wider dynamic range is a characteristic of the digital recording, but the sound source is relatively finer, with more overtones, and the spatial expression of the Luke Church, where the recording was made, is richer. In addition, two piano pieces by Brahms recorded in Japan in 1979 are included in the margins. The third piece, "Laplante" (Op. 119), is a piano piece by Brahms, and her richly nuanced expression shines through in this piece. The third piece, "Rhapsody," was previously released on LP (OF-7008), but this is the first time it has been released on CD. (1/2)
