Thielemann and the Vienna Philharmonic complete Bruckner cycle. Christian Thielemann, one of the world's most popular masters of German music, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra have completed "Bruckner: The Complete Bruckner Symphonies," the first complete Bruckner cycle to be completed by a single conductor in a project commemorating the composer's 200th birthday in 2024. The complete Bruckner cycle, including F minor and No. 0, was recorded at the Musikverein in Vienna and the Salzburg Festival over a four-year period beginning with No. 2 in 2019 and ending with No. 9 in 2022 (No. 3, No. 1, F minor, and No. 0 were performed without audience participation under the corona). The F minor and No. 0 were performed for the first time by the Vienna Philharmonic, and No. 1 is based on a late Vienna manuscript. Thielemann's interpretation is fluent, with a rich and dense sound that is in keeping with the Vienna Philharmonic's tradition of Bruckner performance. The opposing arrangement, which highlights the structure of the work, is also very effective. Only the Japanese version is available on hybrid disc.
