Description:
The legendary Polish-born pianist Mieczyslaw Holczowski (1892.6.23-1993.5.22) died in 1993 at the age of 101. A child prodigy from an early age, he performed with Casals and other greats, played chamber music, and devoted himself to educational activities at the Curtis and Marlboro music festivals. After reaching the age of over 90, he once again attracted great attention as a soloist, and continued to perform as an active pianist until nearly 100, making him a miracle performer. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of his death, the entirety of the two solo recitals that he gave in December 1987 on his first visit to Japan for the opening of the Casals Hall in Tokyo, including previously unreleased pieces, have been newly reissued from the original masters recorded by the Funhouse label at the time, and are recorded in the order of performance on the day of the recitals. This is the first time in history that the complete performance of this one-of-a-kind concert, which Horshovsky later recalled that he "wanted Casals to hear it", has been reproduced.
