A two-disc album (completely limited edition) coupling studio and live performances by pre-war folk and country blues giants Red Berry! Disc 1 features studio and live recordings of classic songs such as "Midnight Special" and "Goodnight Irene," while Disc 2 includes six previously unreleased songs from a 1948 New York radio session, plus live recordings from Austin and Chicago in 1949. Forty rare and historic recordings that give the audience a chance to hear a lot of his voice in his later years. Red Berry, real name Huddy William Redbetter, was born in 1888 on a plantation in Mooringsport, Louisiana. In 1917, he met Blind Lemon Jefferson in Texas and learned the country blues style. He learned the country blues style. However, he was in and out of prison for numerous felonies, including murder. During his several incarcerations, he met Lomax and his son and recorded hundreds of songs while in prison.In the 1940s, he met Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger in the booming folk scene in and around New York City, and formed a mentor-student relationship with them. In 1949, he went on his first European tour, but he became ill and the tour was cancelled. He passed away as a result of his illness.
