The overwhelming Paris live performance of Bernstein's eighteenth repertoire, a massive program that drew a huge ovation from the audience, is now available in stereo! This is the first complete release of the famous program that concentrates Bernstein's hottest points, Schumann No. 2 and Shostakovich No. 5, and it has a great impact as a stereo recording. The concert was held just one month after Munsch's last visit to Japan. Bernstein had made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in the same year when he was Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, and his presence in Europe was just beginning to grow. The performance produced by this combination of musicians at this time was very passionate and spirited while maintaining the French style of tone, and the music was performed with a strong sense of drive that made the audience's hands sweat. No wonder the audience applauded so loudly! The standard CD version (ALT-508/9) was selected as a special selection disc in the March 2022 issue of Record Geijutsu (Recorded Arts).
