The sound quality has been greatly improved with the latest remastering in 2018, a superb reissue! This is a masterful performance by Scherchen, released on the Tarra label created by Miriam Scherchen, daughter of the conductor Scherchen, and her husband René Treminu. The remastering has renewed the sound quality and brought it back to life with eye-opening intensity. The Dvocon with the virtuoso Fournier, who plays the cello with graceful tone and passion, is a sparkling, goosebumps-inducing performance. The tone is dark and the atmosphere is extraordinary, and once the music gets going, it is a serious battle between the soloist and the conductor! The sharpness of the performance was outstanding, and the close, heated exchanges between the soloist and conductor were breathtaking. Scherchen's performance of Brahms No. 3 was also swirling with passion and intensity. The final movement has an eerie, subterranean explosion as the orchestra sinks into the depths of the earth, and the scene at the four-minute mark, when he shouts to inspire the brass section, is also intense.
