The fourth collection in the series consists of Beethoven's music in various orchestras. The piano trio features Alexander Schneider, the second violinist of the Budapest String Quartet. Schneider was the person who recommended Gould to David Oppenheim, the head of Columbia Records, and gave him the opportunity to make his debut. The "Bagatelle" is a lush performance at a faster tempo than the later Sony recording. The young Gould's piano concerto, in which he plays against the orchestration solidly constructed by German conductor Heinz Unger, is also a delightful performance that is well worth listening to. The jacket design is printed in silver. The color cannot be reproduced on screen using image data, so the jacket is of great value as a real thing. The detailed Japanese-language commentary makes this album a must-have addition to your collection.
