Description:
Produced by Makoto Kubota! The masterpiece "Sketch of Myak" has been re-released with one bonus track! My sense of direction changed as if my GPS was turned on for the first time after a mysterious experience in Kumano. Then I was invited to visit Miyako Island. After a series of amazing and enjoyable encounters, this album was born. After a while, it led to a big concert, and then to the production of a film with the same title, "Sketch of Myaak". I hope you can feel the unique character of this album, which is different from the folk songs of Okinawa and Yaeyama. If you look through the film as well as the related books on the history of Miyako Island, Kenichi Tanigawa, and others, an amazing world will open up before your eyes. Makoto Kubota Okinawa has finally unearthed a "gold nugget of sound" lying on Miyako Island! Who knew such a rare and familiar sound still existed in the Japanese archipelago! The Blue Asia journey continues. Makoto Kubota's field recordings of as many as 100 songs and the discovery of ultra-rare analog recordings have led to the creation of genre-defying masterpieces. Traveling musician Makoto Kubota has arrived at Miyako Island, Okinawa, the last unexplored musical region in the Japanese archipelago! Miyako Island and its surrounding islands, and the Shinto songs and ancient songs that have been handed down there for centuries. Makoto Kubota and Blue Asia revive these magical songs with cool, loud, bluesy, and dope rhythmic treatments.About 40 years after introducing Shokichi Kina to the mainland, Makoto Kubota's ears were glued to Miyako Island, not Yaeyama, passing through Okinawa. It was neither rock nor pop music. It was Shinto songs and old songs that he came across by chance. During numerous visits to the island since the fall of 2007, Kubota has collected as many field recordings as possible of ancient songs not only from Miyako, but also from the nearby islands of Irabu, Tarama, and Ikema. Blue Asia will now offer the world a modern rearrangement of Miyako's sacred songs and ancient songs, which are of great academic importance due to their mythological content, vocabulary and phrases that are connected to the upper antiquity of Japan. This work is a powerful project to archive the musical heritage of ancient songs, which are dying out in Miyako, using Blue Asia's techniques. The sound of this music is a great missing link in the world's roots music, and will influence rock and pop music as the blues of the Ryukyus.
