Description:
The latest reissue project by EXHUME EXHUME PRODUCTION x HMV RECORD SHOP! Legendary Kansai SSW Kyozo Nishioka recorded his fourth album "Travels in South America" in L.A. after traveling to Mexico, Miami, Bahamas, and New Orleans in 1979, and released it in 1979. The steel pan sound of "NEVER LAND" is impressive and has a nuance of so-called Japanese reggae, and this is the first 7inch release in a limited quantity! The band features members of Sauvat Review, including Junji Yamagishi (g) and Nagao Ishida (g), as well as Robert Greenidge, a steel pan player known for his work with Van Dyke Parks and Taj Mahal. (FLATT THE LAIDBACK) Profile of Kyozo Nishioka (May 7, 1948-April 3, 1999) Singer-songwriter from Shima Peninsula, Mie Prefecture. His nickname is "Zo-san. Nishioka left for Osaka to attend Kinki University and was a regular at Dylan, a folk cafe in Namba, Osaka, opened by Masaji Otsuka and Yoko Ishimura in August 1969. Dylan was a hangout for young folk lovers from all over Japan. Nishioka formed the folk group "The Dylan" with Masaji Otsuka and Hiroshi Nagai, who were also regulars, and performed at folk camps and the Nakatsugawa Folk Jamboree, but Nishioka left in 1971, and Otsuka and Nagai formed "The Dylan II". Nishioka later wrote "Puka Puka," a song that would become one of his best-known songs, under the pen name Zou Kyou Zou and provided it to The Dylan II, and it was first released on the B-side of the single "Manly, You Know What I Mean" released by The Dylan II on the URC label in July 1971. Nishioka began his solo career and released his debut album "At Dylan" produced by Kinji Yoshino on the Bellwood label in July 1972. This album included "Puka Puka" sung by Nishioka. In September 1973, Nishioka appeared at the Happi Nippon's breakup live "CITY - LAST TIME AROUND" held at Bunkyo Kouminkan in Tokyo, and in January 1974, he released the album "Machikari Murakari" produced by Haruomi Hosono, and in 1975, "Rokkamai Beibi" produced by Shigeru Suzuki's Huckle Back. Nishioka produced three albums produced by Haruomi Hosono, and they became friends. He and his wife, lyricist KURO, provided lyrics and music to artists such as Eikichi Yazawa, and while traveling around the world with KURO, they recorded "Travels in South America" (1977), "Yosoro" (1979), and "New York to Jamaica" (1981), and released albums that actively incorporated reggae, calypso and other world music. In the 1980s, he released albums under the name KYOZO&BUN, a unit with Yoshifumi Okajima, and in the 1990s, he returned to solo work, releasing "START" (1993) and "Farewell Song" (1997). In 1997, his wife KURO passed away, and he continued his musical activities, but in 1999, at the age of 50, he passed away. Kyozo Nishioka's music transcended the boundaries of folk music, incorporating jazz and tropical elements to create a unique worldview that has left an important mark in Japanese music history.
