Description:
Masked rapper MF Doom is an underground legend who pioneered the possibilities of alternative hip-hop. His third album was released in 2003 under the name Victor Vaughan. In 2003, when the legendary MF DOOM was undergoing tremendous growth and reinvention, he introduced us to one of his many alter egos, Viktor Vaughn, a time-traveling MC from another dimension, from another world where hip-hop was banned. He had been exploring time and space looking for a new dimension to hone his MC skills and eventually ended up in New York City in the 90s. He then began a sideline of fighting other MCs at open mics and small venues to raise money to repair his time machine and return to his journey. Vaudeville Villain is a concept album like no other, with MF DOOM reinventing himself as a younger, hungrier, more brash persona, exploring old and new themes from different perspectives.Of course, having developed a second self from a more technologically advanced universe, he wanted to take the same new approach in production. Hence, Viktor Vaughn raps over next-school beats that move freely between electronica and hip-hop, with production by Sound-Ink's King Honey, Heat Sensor, and Max Bill (one track by RJD2 (with the exception of one song by RJD2). Guests on the album include M. Sayyid (Anti-Pop Consortium), Lord Sear, Apani B Fly MC, and Louis Logic. The album is one of the most unique and creative works in the MF DOOM universe.
