Three years after her smash hit last album, Caroline Rose releases her fifth album "The Art of Forgetting," an album brimming with more intense emotion. Rose is an artist known for her wit and satirical storytelling, but for the first time on The Art of Forgetting, her music is raw and full of intense emotion. With the same confessional honesty that has been glimpsed in her previous works, Rose's humor peeks out unexpectedly amidst themes of regret and grief, loss and change, shame and pain. After a series of heartbreaking events, Rose had no desire to make a statement, let alone a new album. It was truly a time of contemplation and transformation, and as Rose sees it, a gradual union of reconnection and growth.Prompted by a difficult breakup, Rose began to dive deeper inside, unknowingly digging up long-buried childhood experiences. 'It made me think a lot about how memory manifests itself in our lives. Memory can feel like a curse, or it can be used as a tool," Rose says. With this in mind, Rose created the album using devices and media that embody the characteristics of fading or flawed memories. She was drawn to instruments that naturally change and decay over time, such as wood and string instruments, voice, tape, and granular synthesis, etc. Rose began recording basic layers in her home studio. From there," Rose says, "I experimented for about a year with recordings made both at home and in other studios. The result is a highly dynamic soundscape that blends layers of vocal arrangements, chopped-up acoustic instruments, and dreamy synths.
