This is the third film in the feature-length trilogy by master filmmaker Wang Bing that highlights the fate of a generation through the lives of young migrant workers in contemporary China.
The third installment of the "Youth" trilogy is the latest work by Wang Bing, who is currently one of the most acclaimed documentary filmmakers in the world, with works such as "Iron West" and "The Soul of the Dead.
The Yangtze River Delta region stretches downstream from Shanghai to the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River Delta alone is a large economic region with a GDP far exceeding that of Japan. The film depicts the daily lives and labor of a young generation in their late teens and twenties working in a garment factory in the town of Shoukuri in the Yangtze River Delta. Many of them are migrant workers from rural areas.
Director Wang Binh says his job to do is "to document the lives of people who are invisible to the world. This is an action film, a romantic film, an economic film, and above all, a coming-of-age film.
Wang Bing, who has shown a genius for distance from his subjects, framing, and scoffing moments, looks carefully at each character, overwhelmingly affirming that all of them are here to live.
