Description:
Many Reger works were released in 2016 to commemorate the Reger Memorial Year, but this long violin concerto is a difficult piece for performers, and there are not many recordings of it. The violin requires a high level of technique, of course, but the orchestral part is also very important, and the work is more aptly called a "symphony with violin" like Brahms' piano concerto. The soloist is the Russian-born Austrian virtuoso Elena Denisova, a child prodigy who began performing at the age of four and made her first recording at the age of eleven, and has appeared at many concerts and music festivals, captivating audiences with her high level of musicianship. The ensemble that backs this violin concerto also plays an important role. The Gustav Mahler Ensemble, which performed with Denisova and Kornienko, was founded in 1996 by Denisova and Kornienko with the goal of "performing unusual works.
