Description:
All CD recordings are firsts! Numerous masterpieces born from more than 50 years of artistic partnership Booklet includes two major essays by Seiyoshi Ozawa and Haruki Murakami This is a memorial box set for world-famous conductor Seiji Ozawa, who passed away on February 6, 2024 at the age of 88, produced by the Berlin Philharmonic's own label. The Berliner Philharmoniker and Seiji Ozawa had a special relationship since their first collaboration in 1966. Highlights include the Berliner Philharmoniker's centennial in 1982, the 100th anniversary of Karajan's birth in 2008, and the Waldbühne concert in 2003 with Seiji Ozawa's friend Marcus Roberts, who became his close friend. In 2016, the 50th anniversary of their collaboration, the Berliner Philharmoniker conferred on him the title of Honorary Member of the orchestra. In the 1980s, Seiji Ozawa made multiple guest appearances with the Berliner Philharmoniker each season, working closely with the orchestra to produce numerous masterpieces. This edition of the Berliner Philharmoniker's concertos offers a taste of those performances through sound sources that were meticulously prepared for radio broadcast.Seiji Ozawa, Karajan's favorite pupil and Bernstein's assistant, not only built geographical bridges to the United States and Japan, but also constantly brought new musical discoveries to the Berlin Philharmonic. This edition includes classical works from the German and Austrian classical and late romantic periods, French music, and contemporary music, which reflect Ozawa's wide range of styles and personal taste. Above all, these recordings embody a deep devotion to music and a shared ideal of human interaction. Through his unique conducting style, which Ozawa described as "conducting that breathes," he and the Berlin Philharmonic have made even the most complex works into transparent, multifaceted music.
