Fulscher & Bamberg Symphony Orchestra Bruckner "Romantic" recorded in three different editions! It is well known that Bruckner's symphonies exist in several "manuscripts". No. 4 "Romantic" is one of them. The Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, led by Jakub Frusha, has recorded three versions of Bruckner based on their many years of experience in Bruckner performance. Fulscher himself agreed to this project, seeing it as a unique opportunity for a conductor to record all the different editions of Bruckner. For the listener, hearing the different editions with the same performers will allow him or her to determine the composer's intentions and the significance of the multiple editions. The most popular of Bruckner's nine symphonies, Op. 4, is the most popular because of its "Romantic" subtitle and its not-too-long running time, The work was revised under Bruckner's supervision in 1887/88.Then in 1936, musicologist Robert Haas published an edition based on the 1878/1880 manuscript with the corrections of his pupils removed, and in 1953, musicologist Leopold Nowak published a revised version of Haas' edition. This recording uses the 1888 manuscript (Draft 3), revised by musicologist Benjamin Korstvedt from the bottom manuscript, published by the International Bruckner Society in 2004. As a bonus, the "Maboroshi" finale and several drafts of the "Village Festival" are also included. The finale, which Bruckner himself called "Volksfest" (village festival or people's festival), was composed between August 1 and September 30, 1878, during the revision of the first draft. The second draft of the first, second, and third movements, written in 1878, was retained, and combined with the third draft of the fourth movement, written between 1879 and 1880, was removed.
