Chamber Music Works by French Organist Louis Vierne This is the second installment of the "Concert Santenaires" series featuring Judit Ingolfsson on violin and Vladimir Staupel on piano. This time, the French organist & composer Louis Vierne is featured. Although Vierne was born nearly blind due to congenital cataracts, his musical talent blossomed from an early age, and at the age of 10, his uncle, a professor at the Paris Conservatory, discovered his talent and he began serious study. Later, impressed by the performances of César Franck, he studied under such famous organists as Charles-Marie Vidor. He was the principal organist at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris at the end of his career. As an organist by profession, he concentrated most of his creative work on the organ, but he also wrote works in a wide range of genres, from orchestral to chamber music, piano music, and songs. The Violin Sonata, which he wrote for Ysaÿe as well as for Franck, is a piece that requires extreme technical skill, and the piano part also plays a large part in the piece.And the Piano Quintet, dedicated to his late son, is a masterpiece no less than the works of Franck and Fauré, who represent the French modern era, and is moving in its lyrical melody.
