With Nos. 4, 5, 6, and 7 already made into video products, the latter half of the cycle has reached its climax. Barenboim has already recorded the complete works twice, and this cycle is a very fulfilling performance of the works in his possession with the Staatskapelle Berlin, an orchestra with which he has built a longstanding and good relationship. The Staatskapelle Berlin's hard, austere sound and Barenboim's skillful conducting with control of every detail. The incomparable beauty of the third movement and the grand, undulating scale of the final movement are a highlight of the performance.
