Abbado's Motzlek! Lively and full performance! The soloists are also outstanding! The live performance of Mozart's Requiem conducted by Abbado at Lucerne Music in August 2012 will be released on Blu-ray and DVD. Abbado's Mozart Requiem was recorded live in 1999 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert commemorating the 10th anniversary of Karajan's death. That performance was a hot topic because of the use of Abbado's unique "editions," and this time, the performance basically uses the Beyer edition, with an eclectic and complex composition, including the complete Levin edition of the "Sanctus". As well as the characteristic "editions," Abbado's astonishing concentration and high standard of performance are also noteworthy. The Bavarian Radio Choir and the Swedish Radio Choir are led by the young choral genius Peter Dijkstra.The audience will enjoy some of the world's finest singing, combining the rich, thick Bavarian and the exquisite Swedish charm of exquisite harmonies. The soloists are also strong, with Anna Prohaska, a soprano with a clear voice; Sara Mingardo, whose steady singing is pleasant; Maxim Schmidt, a graceful and seductive tenor; and René Parpe, who sings with dignity and a lustrous bass tone.
